Women today are experiencing more freedom than women did in the past. Better living conditions, easier access to necessities and education, and increased mobility have allowed women to achieve their goals more easily. But despite these recent advances in women’s rights and in society, women still face a lot of pressure. The most common pressures that women face include raising a young family, work, and physical well-being/appearance. Infertility is a problem that affects both men and women. It is defined as inability of a couple to conceive a pregnancy after regular unprotected sexual intercourse for at least 12 months. A recent study shows that today 11.5% to 15.7% of Canadian couples deal with infertility issues. Among couples with a female partner aged 40 to 44 years old, the infertility rate is 14.3% to 20.7%. Almost 30 years ago, in 1984, that number was only 4.6% [1].

Women’s bodies go through a lot during pregnancy. The challenges of pregnancy are varied and diverse, with some being more difficult than others. It effects all aspects of women's well being – physiology, mental and emotional states, and spirituality. Pregnancy can be an amazing and beautiful experience with many positive aspects too, but it’s important that expectant mothers know about the possible challenges and have an understanding of self-help tools and complementary therapies that can help ease the difficulties, uncertainty, fears and anxiety.
